Update 10/25 - 6:45 AM: All USD schools currently have power and will be open for instruction.

--

Good Evening Union School District Community,

The storm we are experiencing is resulting in power outages across our area. Thus far, three of our campuses and the District Office have been affected, but we will continue to monitor power outages into tomorrow morning. As long as campuses have power, schools will remain open.

If we do not have power as of 7:30 a.m., Monday morning, affected school campuses will be closed for the day. Parent and guardians will be notified by phone/email.

If we begin the day with power, but lose power at some point during the day and we expect the power to be out for any extended period of time and we are unable to accommodate instruction outdoors due to weather, we will notify parents and guardians to pick up their student(s).

The combination of power outages, COVID-related protocols, and inclement weather poses a unique challenge because adequate ventilation is a critical COVID safety component.  When we lose power, we lose ventilation systems and when this is coupled with inclement weather, we are unable to make accommodations (i.e., outdoor instruction) that we would make if we were to lose power in better weather.

While we all appreciate the much needed rain, we do hope power is restored to our neighborhoods. Please stay safe and look out for messages from USD and your school site principal with more information in the morning.
