Dear Union School District Families,

As part of our shared work to keep our students safe, I would like to provide information about a situation that occurred yesterday afternoon in the neighborhood surrounding Guadalupe Elementary after school hours.

Yesterday, after school between 3:00 and 3:30 PM on the corner of Via Madero Drive and Puerto Vallarta Drive, an upper-grade elementary student reported being approached by an unknown man who grabbed the student. The student made a good decision and responded immediately, was able to run away from the situation and reported the situation to an adult.

Given the situation, the San Jose Police Department was called and are investigating the incident. If you have any information, please reach out to our law enforcement partners at SJPD by calling (408) 277-8900.

The safety of our students is our number one priority we share with our families, and we encourage you to talk to your child about how to be safe and vigilant while out in the community. We want to recognize this student’s quick thinking and response to the situation to keep themselves safe.

Thank you for your important role in keeping all students safe, and as always, we urge you to contact authorities if you notice anything suspicious around any of our school communities.

Kind Regards,

Dr. Carrie Andrews
Superintendent
