Dear Union School District Families and Staff,

Since the start of the pandemic, we have closely monitored COVID cases in our schools and community with the safety of our students and staff being our top priority. As shared yesterday in the USD School Bell, it is important to continue to stay vigilant to safety measures as a means to contain transmission of COVID-19 in our community.

We have seen an increase in COVID cases in USD, similar to increases seen across the County and State. Due to the continued uptick in COVID-19 cases specifically at Lietz Elementary, we are adjusting our safety measures in order to prevent further transmission at Lietz only. Given the increased positive COVID-19 case count at Lietz, the California Department of Public Health has recommended a move back to required face masks indoors at Lietz Elementary School.

Indoor masks remain strongly recommended for individuals at Alta Vista, Carlton, Dartmouth, Guadalupe, Noddin, Oster and Union, and for all individuals attending events on campus.

  • Monitor your child’s symptoms. Even if experiencing mild symptoms, keep your child home. Staying home when ill is important to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Contact your school site for guidance on when they may return to school.
  • While not required at Alta Vista, Carlton, Dartmouth, Guadalupe, Noddin, Oster and Union, wearing masks indoors is still highly recommended.
  • Onsite weekly COVID-19 testing continues to be available for all staff and students. If you would like to opt-into testing, please contact your school office.

Kind Regards,

Dr. Carrie Andrews
Superintendent
