Shared with USD families and staff members (September 16, 2022)

--

Dear Union School District Community,

Earlier this morning, there was a student medical emergency at Oster Elementary before the start of the school day. The first grade student’s family member was present, and staff was quick to respond and called 911 immediately. Multiple emergency response units were on campus within minutes to administer medical treatment and transport the student to a local hospital. It is with great sadness that we were informed today that the child has tragically passed away.

Additional District mental health therapists, psychologists and staff are being made available at Oster for the week to provide support for students and staff.

If you would like support in how to share or discuss this news with your child, we have compiled resources for you below.

Our sympathy and thoughts are with the child’s family, the entire USD community and all of our students and staff as we process this news together. We have an incredible support system at our schools and in our community, so as always, we will make every effort to support our students, families and staff during this difficult time.

Kind Regards,

Dr. Carrie Andrews
Superintendent
