On Friday, January 6, 2023, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced the 2023 California Distinguished School Program awardees. We are very proud to announce that five of our elementary schools in Union School District were selected for this year’s award including Alta Vista Elementary, Carlton Elementary, Guadalupe Elementary, Noddin Elementary and Oster Elementary.
The California Department of Education (CDE) uses multiple measures to identify eligible schools based on their performance on the state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard, including assessment results, socioeconomic data, and reducing chronic absenteeism and suspension rates.
“This honored distinction is a testament to our educators' commitment and hard work to the success of our students, our schools’ excellent teaching and learning, and our community’s dedication to support our students’ social emotional wellness and academic progress,” said Union School District Superintendent Dr. Carrie Andrews.
Congratulations to our recognized schools. Teams from each school will be honored at a statewide ceremony in February alongside other educators in California. More information about the California Distinguished School Program can be found on the CDE website.
