San Jose, CA – On Thursday, February 29, 2024, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced the 2024 California Distinguished School Program middle and high school awardees. We are very proud to announce that Dartmouth Middle School and Union Middle School in Union School District were selected for this year’s award among a prestigious group of 16 recognized middle and high schools in Santa Clara County.

The California Distinguished Schools Program is California’s school recognition program that recognizes two categories of exceptional schools: those closing the achievement gap and those demonstrating exceptional student performance. To select California Distinguished Schools, the California Department of Education (CDE) uses multiple measures to identify eligible schools based on their performance on the state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard.

Specifically, schools were selected by analyzing data reported through the 2023 Dashboard, with a focus on demonstrating excellence and growth in academic achievement and ensuring a positive school climate.

“This esteemed honor is a reflection of our students’ learning and achievement, as a result of the dedication of our educators who strive to create a supportive school environment and are committed to the success of each and every student. Congratulations to both the Dartmouth and Union school communities for their wholehearted support and partnership, which has been instrumental in fostering Dartmouth and Union's positive school culture, innovation and success,” shared Superintendent Dr. Carrie Andrews.

Teams from each school will be honored at a statewide ceremony in May alongside other educators in California. Congratulations once again to the Dartmouth and Union Middle School students, staff and community for being recognized as a California Distinguished School.
