Dear Union School District Families, Staff and Community,

Union School District is a vibrant community dedicated to providing the best possible education for all our students. We believe in the power of strong collaborative partnerships between families, staff, schools, and the district.  

We understand that in today’s world, the political climate can cause worry and uncertainty for some families. We also understand that each family may have different perspectives and feelings. Please know that USD is committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive public education environment for every student and their loved ones. 

Each and every family may face unique challenges, including those with loved ones who are undocumented or dealing with immigration status. All of our schools in USD are safe and welcoming places for all students and their families irrespective of their citizenship or immigration status. Our focus remains on supporting all our students and helping them succeed in a caring and positive environment. 

Recognizing that you may have questions, we are reaffirming our united purpose to serve all our students. USD has strong board policies in place that reaffirms our commitment to students and outlines the district procedures aligned with the laws protecting students.

We also recognize that as a school community, we are a hub for community resources for families. Most recently, Governor Gavin Newsom and his administration have established an immigration website that addresses the confidentiality of student information, legal help and mental health resources. We have also included the ACLU’s Immigration Rights Resource is a helpful tool to learn more about your rights and share with others.

In addition, each and every family has varying ways that they connect with USD. This month, I am asking you to fill out a short survey so we can know what type of resources or new ideas that we need to infuse to ensure all individuals feel connected to their school and to USD.
