It has been brought to our attention today that there is a social media challenge nationwide that threatens school safety. The post appears to be part of a national social media trend and refers to a threat to school safety "for every school in the USA" on Friday, December 17. There have been no credible threats made to our schools or District based on the post or rumors.

Reports indicate that these social media posts are being shared across the country through students forwarding them to others. We find these social media challenges inciting threats to schools problematic and urge parents to help in talking with their children about not participating by spreading posts that refer to school safety threats. Even though they are not credible threats, the posts can cause disruption and anxiety for our students, families, and staff. As always, our counselors are available if your child has concerns.

If you or your child become aware of any potential threat posted to social media or anywhere else, please notify a school staff member or trusted adult right away. We appreciate your partnership as we work to ensure a safe, secure, and positive learning environment for our students.

Please note, we are continuing to monitor the situation along with all school districts across the nation. We look forward to seeing your child at school tomorrow for our last day before the Winter Break.

Sincerely,

Dr. Carrie Andrews

Superintendent
