On Tuesday, March 10th, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond, announced that Union Middle School is a 2026 California Distinguished School awardee. Union Middle School receives this prestigious honor in recognition of closing the achievement gap. To earn this distinction, Union has demonstrated acceleration of academic progress for two or more identified subgroups while also demonstrating achievement for all students above the state median and maintaining/increasing academic performance for all students.
Union Middle School and Union School District will be honored by the California Department of Education (CDE) at the California School Recognition Program (CSRP) Awards on Friday, April 24, 2026.
This award is a direct reflection of the collective commitment to equity and implementing data-driven strategies to support student learning. I extend my deepest gratitude and congratulations to Union Middle School staff, students, and families.
